Heston Blumenthal is publicly known for his magic hands. He’s the Father of molecular gastronomy, who can make everything becomes edible. He’s like the real-life Dumbledore in the food industry, only without the long white beard and the magic wand (or maybe he secretly does? We'll never know).

I had a passionate wish to visit “The Fat Duck”, a Three-Star Michelin Restaurant owned by the talented Chef, but my wish has to be put aside for a while, considering that “The Fat Duck” has swum back to its London home.

Worry not, Heston has decided to replace it with “Dinner”, still located at Crown Melbourne, furnished with a dark, confusing entrance. The restaurant aims to present exquisite meals based on ancient recipes. Apart from the fancy meal, customers can also learn about the historical background of the recipes written on the menu.
From Friday to Sunday, the restaurant offers a 5-course lunch set ($160, plus $120 with wine), which is of good value for money and include:

Hay Smoked Ocean Trout
I don’t usually finish my vegetables outside the house, but if the plate looks this pretty, I wouldn’t be able to refuse. Boasting a competitive taste of lemon and a chewy and salted ocean trout, it was the ultimate appetiser.

Meat Fruit
It is one of the greatest recipes that the world has ever had. Inside the orange was a creamy chicken liver parfait. The light tangy flavour and the creaminess spread soothingly on the crunchy grilled bread. Although, I was unable to finish it due to the parfait’s intensity.

Rice & Flesh
I felt like I was turning into a cruel human when I ate one of Australia’s most treasured animals. Thankfully, the tender kangaroo’s meat was less than a handful. On the other hand, the rice had an impressive texture, neither too soft nor too hard, soaked well in the exotic pungent broth. The dish was one that would even satisfy the royalties.

Chicken Cooked with Lettuces
Don’t be fooled by the presentation! Even though it got the simplest plating out of all the dishes, it was one of the most divine. The plump white chicken meat was moist and spectacularly soft. It melted in my mouth without the need of much mastication, well harmonised with the crisps, the crunchy vegetable leaf and the decent sauce.

Tipsy Cake
Truly smooth custard finished with some fresh and tangy pineapple slices that will satisfy dessert enthusiasts. The sweet treat was more than a masterpiece. It was a magical creation.

Post Meal Compliment: Earl Grey Dark Chocolate Mousse w/ Biscuits
The earl grey boldly lent itself to the creamy mousse. When the crumbly biscuits were dipped into the sinfully sweet and bitter mousse, you’d be impressed.

“Dinner” may not be on par with “The Fat Duck”, but it is more than enough to show how gifted are Chef Heston and his team. From the professional staffs and the sublime food, “Dinner” is at a different level.  Silently wondering how God like "The Fat Duck" must be.
